Heathrow Pub and Restaurant Overview:
The Golden Cross has been revamped and the new owners have turned what has been a depressing pub over the past few years into what will undoubtedly become a neighbourhood gem. The food is divine, proper home cooked, pub grub, which is full of flavour and diverse in choice. The best meal I have had in the Heathrow area for a long time!
The Golden Cross is well located between the new Hilton Heathrow Hotel Terminal 5 in Poyle and the Travelodge T5 alongside the M25. My guess is that it will attract a fair number of clients from both establishments and the walk is well worth it. Just a 10 -15 minute stroll from either hotel will have you seated in this great little pub. The pub offers a selection of lager, ale and cider on tap and a good choice of wines and spirits.
On my first visit to the pub, I tried a chicken, leek and ham pie. I must say, I had forgotten just how awesome a pie could be. It was simply delicious. The food at Golden Cross is seriously good and the prices are more than reasonable. The menu offers diners a varied selection of starters, main courses and desserts. There are daily specials and a separate, well selected, breakfast and lunch menu.
After years of eating in establishments in and around Heathrow Airport I must say this is my favourite. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, seven days a week, I have no doubt that this is going to be a very popular venue with local business people, tourists and visitors to the Heathrow area. Monday – Friday you can grab a breakfast from 7.00am; on Saturday and Sunday the restaurant opens at 8.00am.
For lunch at the Golden Cross, apart from the main menu, there is a selection of tasty sandwiches, jacket potatoes and burgers. The soup and crispy baguette is really good and very filling. Soup of the day when I was there last was leek and potato, it was delightful. Great news at the Golden Cross is that there is FREE Wi-Fi.
The owners Sandy and Jamie deserve a lot of credit; they have really created a warm and comfortable setting. This pub has a relaxing feel, a homely touch which makes you feel at home, with a great mix of chilled out background music, creating a lovely ambiance. I always rate an establishment where the owners are not only present but involved in the business, the Golden Cross offers just that. Their enthusiasm is evident from the relaxing atmosphere to the quality of the freshly prepared ‘home cooked’ fare.
I have no doubt that the Golden Cross is going to become a very popular pub and restaurant. Well done guys, keep up the quality up there and I have no doubt you will soon have a cult following; seeking out your wholesome, delicious food.
Directions:
To find the pub, the post code is SL3 0BN. Parking is available next to the pub.
By car:
Travelling from the M25, exit at junction 14, follow signs towards Colnbrook, continue passed Travelodge on your right, down to the first roundabout, take the 2nd exit and Golden Cross will be on your left hand side.
From Colnbrook, on the Bath Road; turn into Poyle Road at the Arora Park Hotel / The Punchbowl pub corner and proceed past the new Hilton Heathrow Terminal 5 on your right hand side, pass straight through two small roundabouts and you will find the Golden Cross on your right hand side.
By cab
If you are going to have a few drinks please do not drink and drive. A taxi is not expensive and well worth the expense.
We would recommend Heathrow Chauffeurs, call 0208 897 7699 or 07534 409 999 to arrange a collection. You can reserve a transfer on-line at www.heathrowairport-chauffeurtransfers.com
Alternatively, visit our transport links section for a selection of other taxi and chauffeur operators in the area.
By bus:
By bus, from the Heathrow Hotels on Bath road, use the 81 bus towards Slough. Pass through Longford and cross over the M25. Exit the bus at the ‘Poyle Road’ bus stop, opposite the Arora Park Hotel. Walk in the direction the bus has been travelling and turn left into Poyle Road with the Punchbowl pub on your left. Pass the new Hilton Heathrow Hotel Terminal 5 which will be on your right hand side.
Poyle is an industrial area, so don’t let the area make you think you may be heading in the wrong direction, it will certainly be worth the trip. The pub is approximately ½ a mile down Poyle Road on the right hand side.
